Seminar Intro
The 「Oerlikon LED Megatrend Seminar」 is a highly exclusive, focus, targeted seminar. We offer a high quality learning environment by bringing academic institute, industrial giant and policy makers together. First we invite Ian Chan, director of ITRI Electronics & Optoelectronics Research Laboratories, to share 「LED Megatrend」; As for the industrial representative, we invite Dr. Carson M.H. Hsieh, technology VP of Epistar, to share about 「What opportunities Epistar have seen in LED industry」; Lastly, we invite Henry Kuo, director and professor in Department of Photonics, National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan), to share about 「Efficiency droop improvement in GaN based LED for Solid State Lighting application」
Feature 1. Mega Trends in LED market: reviewing the past and looking into the future
LED industry is typically a demand-driven industry. Backlights of mobile phone, NB, LCD panels and other application have played significant roles in driving the market demand since 2000. By the end of 2009, Samsung, the leading TFT-LCD makers, has released its 「LED-TV」, which soon became the new driving force of LED chips demand.
Recently, the general lightening, one of the most promising market in near future, has already capture the eye of most chip makers and investors. Philips estimated that the whole economic pie in general lighting market is about US$ 66 billion, includes luminaires or fixtures (70%), lamps or bulbs (27%), and lighting electronics (3%). Most importantly, by the end of 2015, the LED penetration rate in general lightening market will reach 50%, which is at least US$ 33 billion.
Feature 2. Enlighten the greater China region: the opportunities in the post-ECFA period
The validation of ECFA (Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement) between Taiwan and China implies both new opportunities and new challenges. In China, State Councils, as well as policy makers in province, prefecture and local level have all incorporate the development of LED industry with their economic policy. In this seminar, we will invite policy makers and industrial representatives from China. By doing this, we try to facilitate the cooperation between policy makers and LED makers in the Greater China region.
Feature 3. Focusing on innovation in chip makers with less than 100 people participated
In this seminar, we will invite many representatives of LED chip makers in Taiwan, as well as well-known people in the industry. By focusing on innovation of chip makers, this seminar will only allow about only 100 people participate in, ensuring high quality seminar and intensive discussion between them. We strongly expected this seminar can help chip makers who joined this seminar can have fruitful learning and build up strong connection between each other.
