NCTU was established in 1994. The Department of Photonics (DoP) includes two research institutes. Institute of Electro-Optical Engineering (IDO) was established in 1980, the first institute to train engineer talents in Photonic countrywide, have cultivated more than 1,000 PhD. degrees. To catch up with the trend of photonics technology development, the first Department of Photonics in Taiwan was established prior in 2004, and at the same year, we brought out the first Display Institute, which targets the cultivation of display talents, in the world on September.
